Seaworthy Skin Care

Algae, Kelp, Dulce or better known as Seaweed, this plant from the sea has been around for over 3 1/2 billion years. With plenty of time for experimentation, seaweed has been used as nutritious food (especially known to sushi lovers) medicinal treatments, fertilizer, dyeing agents and more recently fabrics for bedding and clothing, (see my last blog: Can you Sleep on Seaweed) and skin care. In fact 75% of the air that you breath is Algae. Kombu and Wakame are known to have anti-mutagen properties .Green algae is known to be rich in vitamin C.
"In short, seaweed and algae contains almost everything one needs to sustain life and the cradle of all life on earth as such. Therefore, it contains almost everything one needs to restore health"
So what happens to seaweed when it is pulverized and added to a favorite skin care product? For one thing, it is know to have anti inflammatory properties that reduce acne flareups. The minerals in seaweed will make your hair grow faster! The high levels of iodine have an added benefit to grow your hair and make it stronger even when applied in shampoo. Seaweed minerals reduce toxins in the skin to keep your skin clear, smooth and fresh looking.
With all these great benefits why so few products around? The dilemma to find truly organic seaweed and farming is difficult and very costly. And while the benefits are amazing, too much iodine in the body can cause other health issues. Also, products sold without enough seaweed concentrate will not produce the amazing benefits. The companies I found that produce seaweed enriched beauty products were very committed to sourcing the very best seaweed. I have added videos to hear their inspiring stories!

VOYA’s Story: from local to global, naturally.https://vimeo.com/155644870
"A voyage of discovery and innovation; The global business that is VOYA started out as the family-run seaweed baths established by Neil Walton near his home in Strandhill, County Sligo on the wild Atlantic coast of Ireland. As the popularity of the baths grew, the Waltons found more and more customers asking if there was some way they could replicate the soothing effects of the baths at home. That challenge was to be the seed for VOYA.
We knew that the chemicals in conventional cosmetics could destroy the beneficial properties of seaweed and also damage the environment. As a family, we agreed that this was an unacceptable compromise and would simply go against our values. Neil’s brother, Mark, tried to source fully organic seaweed products but found none, and so it became apparent that we faced a long and challenging journey: developing the first genuinely organic seaweed-based cosmetic products in the world."
Keep your hands clean, soft and beautifully scented with Clean Me Up hand wash from VOYA. A deep cleansing organic liquid soap containing essential oils and naturally-derived cleansing and conditioning agents to help soften the skin and leave it feeling clean. Combined with our organic seaweed extract, it gently soothes irritated skin and the natural antioxidant helps to combat the ageing process of your hands and encourage renewal of damaged skin cells. This crisp, cleanly fragranced hand wash is infused with sweet basil, clove bud, lemon, mandarin and lime organic essential oils to refresh and soothe your hands. You’ll be amazed at how soft your hands feel!
